Bespoke oak staircase by Barnett's Bespoke — Hertfordshire joinery

About Barnett's Bespoke

Owner-led carpentry & renovation, built to outlast the fashion of the day.

Barnett's Bespoke exists to give homeowners across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and North London a joiner they can name, reach and hold to account — not a call-centre and a rotating crew.

Who we help

Homeowners who want the job done once, and done properly.

We work with owners of period cottages, Victorian terraces, 1930s semis and modern family homes who have been let down by "man-with-a-van" work — doors that catch, staircases that creak, extensions that leak at the flashing — and want a single joiner-led team to take the whole job seriously.

Charlie is a sole trader with over 20 years' experience on the tools, and personally quotes, plans and works on every project. Smaller work — staircase refurbishments, fitted cabinetry, door and skirting programmes — Charlie completes solo. Larger builds — extensions, loft conversions, full renovations — are led by Charlie with a core carpentry team of two to three, supported by long-established trade partners for brickwork, electrics, plumbing, groundwork and plastering.

Our specialism is anything joinery-led: bespoke carpentry, extensions, lofts, kitchens, bathrooms, fitted wardrobes, home offices, garden rooms, roofing and joinery-grade painting & decorating. Our home ground is Great Hormead, Hertfordshire — and we cover Buntingford, Stevenage, Bishop's Stortford, Hertford, Ware and Hitchin as standard, with wider work across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and parts of London.

What the guarantee covers

In plain English.

  • · Any errors or defects in installation — rectified free of charge.
  • · Loose connections in first- and second-fix carpentry.
  • · Consequential damage caused by improper fitting (for example water damage from a roof or plumbing element).

Wear and tear, neglect and material defects sit outside the workmanship guarantee — the latter are covered separately by the manufacturer's warranties on the products supplied.

Pricing & estimates

Transparent from the first visit.

Free estimates

Site visits and written estimates cost nothing. If drawings or design work are required for a complex project, those are quoted separately — and the fee is deducted from the final job cost if you proceed.

Staged payments

Smaller jobs (up to ~£10k): 10% to secure the diary, 40% before start (materials), 50% on completion. Larger builds are staged through contract, foundations, watertight and sign-off — the full breakdown is agreed in writing before any work begins.
